Gassho Meditation

Updated: Jan 4, 2021

The Three Pillars of Reiki are:   Gassho (Gash-Show), Reiji-Ho (Ray-Gee-Hoe), and Chiryo (Chi-Rye-Oh).

Gassho means “two hands coming together.” Gassho helps to hold the intention of gratitude, respect, focus, balance and connection to collective consciousness.

This meditation is beneficial which can be done it in the morning and evening for 15-30 minutes ideally for one month. For me stopping and taking notes of my thoughts and/or experiences as I meditate helps me remember something that truly stands out in that moment.

HOW TO:

The Gassho hand position help focus and quiet the mind during meditation. Place the hands in prayer position with eyes close and bring awareness to the tip of the middle fingers. If the mind wanders, gently press the middle fingers together and refocus.

  1. In a seated position, place your hands in gassho position

  2. Focus on where your two middle fingers meet

  3. Let your thoughts fall away

  4. Recite the 5 Reiki principles (see below) out loud or in your mind

  5. When finished, send the intention of gratitude

Here are the principles that are commonly used:

  1. Just for today, do not worry.

  2. Just for today, do not anger.

  3. Earn your living honestly.

  4. Honor your parents, teachers, and elders.

  5. Show gratitude to every living thing.

Another variation is:

  1. Just for today, I will let go of worry.

  2. Just for today, I will let go of anger.

  3. Today I will do my work honestly.

  4. Today, I will honor my parents, teachers, and elders.

  5. Today, I will be kind to every living creature.

Being a momma my time is very limited, so to keep myself attuned I practice Gassho for 15 Minutes. If I can do more I add self reiki. To Relax myself and put myself in a calm space I added my Tibetan singing bowl, which are said to promote relaxation and offer powerful healing properties. Which works for me. Watch me below as I practice with the singing bowl. This was my first time using it.

This is also a great video to help guide you during your Meditation.
